Born in Lodz, Dr. Stroynowski grew up in Warsaw, Poland. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Geneva while working as a research scientist at CERN, the European Center for Nuclear Research. Dr. Stroynowski was a Staff Scientist at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and a Senior Research Associate and Lecturer at Caltech. He is now a professor in the Physics Department at SMU. When physicists from around the globe recently announced they had found a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson “God particle,” Stroynowski had reason to celebrate as team leader for the SMU physicists collaborating on the project at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The discovery of the Higgs is the culmination of nearly 50 years of research and is key to understanding how the Universe emerged from the Big Bang.
