Vanessa Ramirez currently serves as the Director of the KIPP Alumni Association.  In this role, she provides an extra layer of support to guarantee her college-age alumni are equipped with and are using the skills necessary to get to and through college, with special focus on ensuring they celebrate their accomplishments, are committed to empowering themselves and their community members, and value the importance of giving back.  She is also the Director of Education for Houston: reVision, a nonprofit organization that works to transform the lives of at risk and gang affected youth by connecting them to positive adult role models; building a new community around strong, affirming peer groups; and preparing the youth for promising futures through education and jobs.  In this role, she is able to work with system-involved youth to identify their academic needs and/or improve academic initiatives that support and empower this community.  Vanessa‘s passion for KIPP and education reform started in 1994 when she became a member of KIPP’s founding class.  She graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA in 2006 with a B.A. in Economics for Business and Management.  Upon graduation, Vanessa moved to Washington, DC and was lucky to join KIPP DC’s Alumni Services team.  In 2007, Vanessa moved back home and joined the KIPP Houston team.  Vanessa loves to people-watch, read, play soccer, is addicted to the feel-good high you get from helping others and cherishes invitations to her students’ graduations.
