Carl Dorvil – The Four P’s of Success – TEDxSMU Salon 2012

Talks No Comments

Carl grew up in Garland, the son of Haitian immigrants who instilled in their children the importance of education at an early age. With his parents’ influence, and having developed his own passion for education, in 2004 Dorvil founded a tutoring/mentoring company, Group Excellence. He first started the company out of his dorm room at SMU, driving tutors to schools and finding time in his busy school and work schedule to tutor at one of the four Dallas ISD schools Group Excellence served at the time. In 2005, Carl graduated with a triple major in Public Policy, Economics and Psychology, with Distinction. Today, Group Excellence is still working toward a goal established by Carl from the beginning – motivating and inspiring students to achieve academic excellence. In 2010, Carl Dorvil received the Minority Business Leader Award from the Dallas Business Journal, and Group Excellence made it to the Top 100 on SMU’s Dallas 100 Fastest-Growing Businesses list. In June of 2011, Dorvil was the youngest honoree listed in the Dallas Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty,” which features local entrepreneurs under the age of forty.
